Tango Music

Interpreting the music

Poema: Francisco Canaro's orchestra was one of the most famous in the golden age of tango music.

His "Poema" is one of the most beautiful pieces of tango music. The lyrics are of a man wistfully and sadly remembering a woman whom he still loves but who no longer loves him.

The video clips in the links below all show different dance interpretations; there are even more on YouTube. The best of these convincingly connect the couple in their dance to the music and through to the lyrics. It is interesting to see how the same piece can inspire different responses. Maybe this will give you some ideas for how you dance your own tango the next time you hear Poema.
